Back in 2017 fans were thrilled after it was announced that science fiction novel series Artemis Fowl would be adapted into a live-action film by Disney.
The books which were written by Irish author Eoin Colfer have been massively popular among readers both at home and abroad.
Talks of a film adaptation have circulated extensively in the past with the filming being stuck in development hell for years since 2001.
Hollywood heavyweight Kenneth Branagh who was behind past epics such as Thor and the live-action Cinderella remake was hired to direct the film.
It seems Disney has managed to get things properly on track as they have finally dropped the first trailer for the film today and it looks pretty interesting.
While a lot of the traditional humour synonymous with the books is absent from the trailer there’s certainly a lot for us to feast our eyes on.
Along with some impressive visuals, we also get our first look at Kilkenny actor Ferdia Shaw as the titular character.
The trailer also features Judi Dench’s voiceover as Commander Root, the leader of the reconnaissance division of fairy police force LEPrecon, a gender-swapped role from the original book series.
Other notable co-stars set to appear in the adaptation include Josh Gad as kleptomaniac dwarf Mulch Diggums, Lara McDonnell as feisty, spirited elf Captain Holly Short, who is kidnapped by Artemis for a ransom of fairy gold, and Miranda Raison as Artemis Fowl’s mother Angeline.
