Anushka Sharma On 10 Years Of Bollywood: 'Made A Career With Unconventional Choices'

nushka Sharma has completed 10 years in the movie business and the actor believes the reason for her successful run are the “unconventional” choices she has made as a performer, producer and an entrepreneur. Anushka, who carved a niche with films like Band Baaja Baaraat, PK, Sultan, NH10, made her debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in 2008 blockbuster Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

“I have always made unconventional choices because it comes from my instincts. I have been successful with those unconventional choices. I have made a career with unconventional choices and that’s why I have created a different standing for myself in the film industry,” Anushka told PTI.

“I believe luck favours the brave. I wasn’t doing it thinking it is risky. I was doing it because that made sense for me. For me following my instincts is an easier thing,” she added. The producer of critically acclaimed films like NH 10, Phillauri and Pari said the focus on content has helped her company Clean Slate Films flourish.

“Whether content is in a big or a small film, it will always work. Audience looks for entertainment. If anyone thinks they are above content then they are making a big mistake. Content is over stars, directors or everything else,” she added.

After doing back-to-back films, Anushka has decided to take time in choosing a new project as she now feels a bit secure about her place in the industry. “I felt I was working round the clock and my life is in the hands of everybody and whoever I had to give time to. I want to take time and pick films that I want to choose. I am in talks with few people.

“I have reached a level of security and position where I can take the time to do a film that I want to do. I am not a newcomer who has to do films for the heck of it. Even when I was a newcomer I was not doing it. I am ok with that. I have gained that position,” she said.

The actor, however, has no plans to go slow when it comes to production.

“The show that we are doing for Amazon Prime Video and for Netflix does require time. If I am producing a film in which I am acting, I have taken out time from my schedule to do it. Here I have to take out time.

“It is a behind-the-scene job so one might not see it but that requires time. I am an actor who produces films also. And that is not slowing down,” she said.

Anushka, who is currently busy promoting her upcoming film Zero with Shah Rukh and Katrina Kaif, is yet to sign any new project.

There were also reports of her soon starting the work on her next production Kaneda to be directed by NH 10 helmer Navdeep Singh, but Anushka said right now her banner is only focusing on ties with Prime Video and Netflix.

“I have that script (Kaneda). We are not in the process of doing it currently. We have our hands full with a series that we are doing with Amazon Prime Video and the movie that we are producing for Netflix,” she said.

Vegas Heads to Hollywood to Take on the Kings

In a Pacific Divison matineé, the Vegas Golden Knights travel to Los Angeles to play the Kings at the Staples Center, with a 1pm start time.

Vegas has been hot lately, fresh off a home wins on Tuesday night against the Washington Capitals and Thursday night over the Chicago Blackhawks. Beating the Capitals was huge for the Golden Knights as they look to continue their climb in the Pacific Division standings. They are on the verge of erasing the stink of a less-than-stellar first 20 games of the season, without star defensman Nate Schmidt.

Tuesday night’s game against the Capitals was a memorable one. The hit heard around the world is still having ramifications for the Golden Knights and Ryan Reaves. Reaves’ late hit on notorious dirty player, Tom Wilson, has garnered tons of negative attention, punctuated by Reaves autographing photos of Wilson on the ice, concussed. In a key win against Washington, the story should have been Schmidt’s game-winner, yet the Knights are left with a PR nightmare in the aftermath of their 5-3 win.

Thursday’s game against the Blackhawks was much more competitive than their 8-3 domination in Chicago in their previous match up. The Golden Knights tied the game at three and got the lead thanks to Jonathan Marchessault and Alex Tuch goals, separated by 12 seconds in the third period. Tuch’s goal went down as the game winner with no additional scoring in the last 12 minutes of the game.

Their afternoon hosts, the Los Angeles Kings, have lost four out of their last five games, including losses in their last two against the New Jersey Devils and Arizona Coyotes. Los Angeles is led in scoring by former captain Dustin Brown (8 goals), points by Anze Kopitar (18), and anchored on the blue line by Drew Doughty. Returning way earlier than originally anticipated, all-star goalie Jonathan Quick holds down the work between the pipes. Quick shut out Carolina in his second game back from injury, but has had mixed results in his other three games of action.

Vegas will see a familiar face in this one, with newly acquired Brendan Leipsic suiting up for the Kings. An original Golden Knights, Leipsic was placed on waivers by the Vancouver Canucks and claimed by LA last week. Leipsic tallied his first goal as a King and third of the season on Thursday against the Devils. As many of you will remember, he has blazing speed. Vegas will need to account for his wheels.

LA has racked up a decent amount of injuries thus far and remain without UFA signing Ilya Kovalchuk, trade acquisition Carl Hagelin, center Trevor Lewis, and backup goaltender Jack Campbell. Vegas is still missing centers Erik Haula and Paul Stastny, the latter taking the practice ice this week with a no-contact jersey. It would seem that Stastny is getting closer to a return, while Haula’s injury is being kept close to the chest by the VGK brass.

Today’s game is a division battle between two playoff teams from 2017-18 that aren’t having the seasons they expected. While Vegas is surging, LA is floundering. Vegas’ sweeping of LA in last year’s playoffs should provide motivation for the Kings, but Vegas’ skill, speed, and depth will be too much to handle, not to mention Marc-Andre Fleury, who will be in net for the Golden Knights. With a game tomorrow night in Vegas against the stars, we may finally see backup Malcolm Subban get his first work since a seven-goal game against the Calgary Flames.

Today’s game will be broadcast on AT&T Sportsnet and Fox Sports Radio 98.9 FM.

Amo Houghton reflects on “The Women of Corning: The Untold Story”

Image result for Amo Houghton reflects on "The Women of Corning: The Untold Story"“They actually have been flying off the shelves,” Sarah Blagg, the manager and co-founder of Card Carrying Books and Gifts on Market Street, said.

“The Women of Corning: The Untold Story” sold out within the first two hours it became available for purchase.

Amo Houghton spearheaded the idea of the book after taking some time during retirement. Geoffrey Kabaservice authored it.

“I read a couple of his books, I was very impressed with him, I thought gosh this is the guy to write the book about the women!” Houghton said.

The book highlights the unsung stories of women who have pioneered through the suffrage movement, the flood of 1972 and those who continue to shape Corning today.

With strong influences from women in his family, Houghton said he believes the book can resonate with the development of the nation.

“The great thing about this town, is that it’s small, and yet at the same time, it represents almost everything in the United States,” Houghton said. “Agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, science, the whole thing, you get an opportunity to look at the country through the lens of Corning.”

Christine Sharkey was with Kabaservice and Houghton from before the first words of the book were even written. Kabaservice currently lives in Washington D.C.

“One thing Geoff has said is that this is not the definitive statement of the history of women in Corning, it is a start, it is a wonderful start,” Sharkey said.

Houghton said the purpose of the book is to recognize the critical importance of women in this city contrasted to those who have had the big titles.

“They were not head of the rotary, or chairman of this or ambassador of that, women underneath were keeping the whole machinery going, and I don’t think many people understand that,” Houghton said.

Card Carrying Books and Gifts is currently the exclusive retailer of the book.

“We don’t normally order too many copies of a new book when it comes out and so I did originally ask for eight copies,” Blagg said. “Saturday mid-day, I was frantic texting asking if we could get some more.”

The book sits at $14.95 each with proceeds donated to Fund for Women of the Southern Tier, Inc. to help girls and women in Steuben, Chemung, Schuyler and Yates Counties.

“As we help women in a four-county area, we’re hoping that those women then are able to write the next chapter of women in Corning,” Sharkey said.

Sotheby's Sends India Head On Leave Pending Probe Into #Metoo Claims

Auction house Sotheby’s has sent its top India executive on a leave of absence pending a probe into anonymous allegations of sexual misconduct.

Gaurav Bhatia, the managing director of Sotheby’s India, has agreed to take leave of absence as a formal inquiry is underway into anonymous allegations on social media, Sotheby’s said in a statement, just days ahead of its first auction in the country.

“Harassment of any type has no place at Sotheby’s and we will thoroughly investigate these allegations with Gaurav’s full cooperation,” it added.

Mr Bhatia did not respond to an email seeking comment.

Sotheby’s did not say who would conduct the probe into the allegations against Bhatia. It plans to go ahead with its inaugural auction scheduled in Mumbai on November 29.

The #MeToo campaign against sexual harassment, which began in the United States’ entertainment industry, gained traction in India earlier this year after Bollywood actor Tanushree Dutta accused a co-actor of sexually harassing her on a movie set a decade ago.

Huge Waterspout Hits Italy, Pics Go Viral On Social Media

An enormous waterspout has been captured on film moving from the sea and hitting the Italian city of Salerno. The rare phenomenon enthralled locals, many of whom described the waterspout as ‘spectacular’ while sharing pics on social media.

According to ABC News, waterspouts are similar to tornadoes, but form over water when cool and unstable air passes over warmer waters and turns into a spinning column of water. They tend to collapse once they move across solid ground.

Videos and photos by eyewitnesses show the waterspout moving closer to land two days ago.

Antonio Stanzione, who shared a video of the waterspout, captured in the nearby coastal town of Vietri Sul Mare, said he had “never seen such a scene.”

“The first thing I thought was ‘how wonderful’ what nature can create,” Mr Stanzione told Euronews, “Then afterwards I felt a huge thump and I thought the situation was getting dangerous.”

However, no injuries were reported.

“Are Governments Made On Social Media?”: Governor On Mehbooba Mufti Tweet

'Are Governments Made On Social Media?': Governor On Mehbooba Mufti Tweet

Are governments made on social media, Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik bit back today as he responded to Mehbooba Mufti’s charge that she had to tweet her letter staking claim to power as her calls and fax were not received.

Governor Malik also defended his decision to dissolve the state assembly just after receiving two claims to form government – a move questioned by opposition parties who allege that he on instructions to stop a non-BJP government in the state. The assembly dissolution sets the stage for elections in the state two years before term.

Mehbooba Mufti had alleged in her tweet last evening that she tried to call the governor and then attempted to fax her letter, but failed. She had claimed the support of her rival Omar Abdullah’s National Conference and the Congress.

The governor asserted that he had not received any message from either Mehbooba or the other claimant to power, Sajad Lone.

“Do governments get made on social media? I don’t tweet or see my tweets,” the governor said on Ms Mufti’s tweet.

He said the fax was not the problem. “Yesterday was Eid. Even My cook wasn’t there, forget my fax operator. No one was there.”

Even if he had received the fax, he said, the decision would have been the same.

“This grand alliance was opportunistic,” he told reporters. “There was an attempt to horse-trade by those who don’t want elections, who had boycotted local polls. I had no vested interest, but acted in the interest of the state. I wasn’t biased towards anyone. I didn’t entertain either side but went with Jammu and Kashmir’s constitution. I didn’t even ask Delhi,” he insisted.

Janhvi And Arjun Kapoor On Anshula Being 'Abused' After Koffee With Karan

Anushla Kapoor being trolled, abused and threatened for seemingly choosing to help Arjun Kapoor instead of Janhvi during a friendly competition on Koffee With Karan 6 is everything that’s wrong with social media. A section of the internet called Anshula out for being biased towards Arjun while some called her “mean and rude.” “Anshula, you are an extremely vile girl to be around Jhanvi and Khushi” – comments such as this were posted on social media. Janhvi, during a conversation with Priyanka Chopra for Facebook live session ‘Social For Good’, said that Anshula received “rape threats” for not helping Janhvi out on the show.

Arjun Kapoor, incensed with the hate comments targeting Anshula, tweeted on Wednesday: “Something I assumed was an absolute non-issue on Koffee With Karan has escalated into Anshula being abused and I can’t be bothered by protocol anymore. F**k all those trolls who wish harm to my sister. I hope your mom or sister never have to go through what you have put us through.”

Host Karan Johar also backed Arjun and added: “It was a harmless fun game and did not warrant this response! People genuinely need to stop this intense negativity.”
